Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister, Dies at 92.

India’s Prime Minister in two terms and architect of economic reforms Dr. Manmohan Singh, who was 92 died on Thursday. He was admitted to Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where age related medical conditions were being treated.

AIIMS said in a statement: We inform you of the death of the former Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh, aged 92, with profound grief. On 26 December 2024, he was at home, being treated for age related medical conditions and had a sudden loss of consciousness.”

The hospital said they began resuscitative measures immediately and were transferred to the hospital. He was brought to the medical emergency at AIIMS at 8:06 PM. Despite all the efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9:51 PM.

A Remarkable Journey

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held two terms in the opposition after 2004 and 2014. However, by liberalizing India in 1991, then Finance Minister, P.V. Narasimha Rao, an architect of India’s economic reforms, brought India into Narasimha Rao’s cabinet.

Upon hearing the news of his condition, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Sonia Gandhi visited the hospital. Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress President and party MP Rahul Gandhi, who were present in a meeting in Karnataka, are returning back to Delhi to offer their respects.

For Rahul Gandhi, Dr. Singh was a ‘mentor and guide’ whose contributions to the country’s development were immense.
