On Thursday, BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi suffered serious injuries in a clash in Parliament. Political tensions fanned further after Sarangi accused Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader, of instigating the scuffle. But however, Congress scorned the allegations as politically motivated.
What Happened?
In a statement, Pratap Sarangi said Rahul Gandhi pushed another MP, who then fell on him which made him fall and suffer from a serious head injury. The row was heated and took place near Parliament’s Makar Gate. Another BJP MP, Mukesh Rajput, suffered dizziness and high blood pressure, too. MPs were rushed to RML Hospital for medical treatment.
Sarangi’s Condition
Doctors confirmed that Sarangi had a deep head injury that required multiple stitches. He was kept in the ICU for observation due to significant blood loss. Sarangi said, “I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi pushed an MP, who fell on me. I fell and hurt my head.”
Congress’s Response
Congress rejected the allegations by Congress that BJP MPs attacked Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi during protest. Congress claimed that the BJP has distorted the incident and is distorting it to snatch the focus of the nation.
Medical Updates
Both MPs are recovering:
• Pratap Sarangi: He suffered serious head injuries and is remaining under observation in the ICU.
• Mukesh Rajput: It’s experienced dizzy and is being monitored for high blood pressure.
Political Fallout
The incident has deepened the divide between BJP and Congress:
• BJP’s Stand: It had accused Rahul Gandhi of improper behavior, calling for strict action.
• Congress’s View: The claims were dismissed, denounced as an attempt to politicize the issue.
Need for Safety in Parliament
The move comes amid concerns about safety of Parliamentarians and deplorable decorum in Parliament. MPs have to work in a safe and respectful place and uphold democratic values.
Conclusion
If MPs have to do better, there have also to be adequate safety provisions for the Pratap Sarangi clash is an example for that. Both parties have to mutually respect and civility not to risk bringing a hail of rocks and jeopardize the sanctity of democratic institutions.
